All eligible applicants will be scored on a rubric based on:
- Directly supporting Maine agricultural and fisheries populations: Organizations, municipalities, entities, LLCs, sole proprietors or independent contractors who can provide direct supports to Maine fishers, farmers or farmworkers
- Serving Agricultural communities: prioritizing low-income agricultural populations, farmworkers, fisherpeople, BIPOC farmers, or other groups that often are underserved or left out of funding opportunities. For the purpose of this application, low-income can be self-defined. Low-income agricultural populations may struggle to pay rent, mortgages or other bills regularly and on time, have limited access to business resources such as land access, funding opportunities, and infrastructure, have limited access to affordable health care or other physical or mental health services, lack of time and money to travel recreationally, etc.
- Contribution to reducing stress and increasing wellness: prioritize applicants whose project contributes to wellness within agricultural communities in Maine. Examples include: addressing lack of access to physical and/or mental health services, providing equipment or services to decrease daily work stress, or addressing social or ecological changes in the environment that create strain for the person.
Funding Information
Currently the total pool of funding is $46,440. Applicants can apply for up to $5,805, but smaller amounts may be distributed depending on funding needs.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for funding, you must:
- Be an organization, municipality, entity, LLC, sole proprietor or independent contractor who serves Maine agricultural populations including farming, fishing, forestry or Indigenous food or medicine producers.
- Be able to explain how the project or program you are seeking funding contributes to wellness support directly to agricultural populations in the state of Maine. Wellness is broadly defined. This could be anything that addresses lack of access to physical and/or mental health services, lack of equipment or services increasing daily work stress, or social or ecological changes in the environment creating strain on the work environment.
- Meet certain requirements for receiving funding from the University of Maine. Applicants will need to be able to:
- register as a vendor with the University of Maine System and sign a contract with the University provide proof of insurance(s). Depending on the application details, a minimum of general liability insurance will be required but may also include professional liability insurances or workers comp. A fiscal sponsorship may be used in the event that the applicant does not hold all appropriate insurances or conduct their own finances.
