City of Rio Rancho Community Development Block Grant 2023-24 (New Mexico)

Dated: January 3, 2023

The City of Rio Rancho is seeking applications for its 2023 – 2024 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), an entitlement program that is administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Donor Name: City of Rio Rancho

State: New Mexico

City: Rio Rancho

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 01/31/2023

Size of the Grant: $525,000

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

The City of Rio Rancho is expecting approximately $525,000 in CDBG funds for the program year 2023.

CDBG program funds are intended to be used for neighborhood revitalization including, affordable housing, public service programs (limited to 15% of the City’s total grant award), neighborhood improvements in low to moderate income areas, clearance or prevention of slum and blight and economic development (by providing direct jobs for low to moderate income persons). Types of projects which qualify are neighborhood public improvements and facilities, housing, public services, handicap accessibility, code enforcement, and job creation and retention.

Who receives CDBG funds?

  • HUD considers communities with populations greater than 50,000 as entitlement communities. Entitlement communities automatically receive a CDBG grant from HUD. HUD calculates the amount of CDBG grant funds for entitlement communities based on population size and the number of low-to-moderate income persons in the community. The City of Rio Rancho receives the CDBG Entitlement Grant and has received the grant since 2000. The amount changes each year but is typically more than $400,000 and provides neighborhood and public services to their low-to-moderate income residents and designated eligible areas or neighborhoods.
  • Applicants (sub-recipients) are awarded funding on an annual competitive basis to implement activities which meet the eligible criteria as established by HUD and the Goals and Objectives as defined in the City’s Consolidated Plan. The CDBG program year is July 1 through June 30 each year; the same as the City’s fiscal year.

The City of Rio Rancho’s CDBG Entitlement Grant program conducts an annual competitive funding process in which applicants submit requests for CDBG funding. In order to qualify for award, applications must be for projects that meet HUD’s National Objectives and be for activities deemed eligible by governing HUD regulations.

Grant Period

Applications for the 2023 program year (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024) are now available.
