Request for Proposals for Latino Endowment Fund – Connecticut

Dated: January 24, 2023

The Latino Endowment Fund (LEF) is pleased to announce a competitive grant opportunity to eligible nonprofits that can demonstrate specific benefits for the Latino/a community within the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving’s 29-town region.

Donor Name: Hartford Foundation for Public Giving

State: Connecticut

Town: Selected Towns

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 02/22/2023

Size of the Grant: Up to $20,000

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

The Hartford Foundation’s Latino Endowment Fund promotes philanthropy by and for the Latino/a community in Greater Hartford. Donors support the endowment fund to advance the social, economic, educational, and leadership development of the Latino/a community.

Scope

This year, the Latino Endowment Fund seeks proposals that create or advance more equitable opportunities for Latino/a residents in Greater Hartford by addressing the racial and ethnic disparities of one or more of the following five equity indicators:

  • Educational Equity
  • Economic Equity
  • Digital Literacy Equity
  • Health Equity
  • Housing Equity

Longstanding structural racism that impacts the Latino/a community often limits resources and opportunities that otherwise increase individuals’ economic prosperity and mobility and their overall well-being.

The Latino Endowment Fund is seeking to fund projects that will reach and unleash untapped potential within the Latino/a community by either removing barriers that limit opportunity for social and economic advancement or by increasing accessibility and pathways to educational attainment, economic prosperity – including career development and wealth-building (e.g., home ownership) – and increased health and well-being.

Funding Information

The Latino Endowment Fund welcomes requests of up to $20,000. Approximately $40,000 in total will be awarded through the RFP.

Eligible Programs

Eligible types of programs may include, but are not limited to, strategies around student success, workforce development, increased employment opportunities and career exposure, postsecondary completion and degree attainment, entrepreneurial supports, neighborhood beautification, accessible healthcare, efforts to increase housing stability or affordability, and community engagement around resident-identified projects related to the equity indicators. Funded projects should be completed within a year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Grants will be considered for programs that aim to close the equity gaps among one or more of the five equity indicators outlined above. Applicants should demonstrate cultural humility. Eligible organizations will either be led by a Latino/an executive director (or equivalent), or the proposed program is led by a Latino/a program director (or equivalent).
  • Population of Focus:
    • Programming must serve Greater Hartford Latino/a residents within the Hartford Foundation’s 29-town region. The Latino Endowment Fund expects applicants to demonstrate a history of working with the Latino/a community and that proposed projects have been informed by and/or designed with the Latino/a community.
  • Eligible Applicants:
    • Applicants must meet the Hartford Foundation basic grantee criteria, found at the halfway point of the webpage at this link. Board of directors and staff must reflect racial and ethnic diversity and represent the Latino/a community. Organizations must be led by a Latino/an executive director (or equivalent) or be seeking funding for a program led by a Latino/a program director (or equivalent). Non-501c3 community-based groups may apply using a fiscal sponsor. Non-501c3 group leadership must also be reflective of the racial/ethnic diversity of the population served through the project.
  • An organization can only submit one application for consideration – though it may serve as a fiscal sponsor for multiple projects.
