The Robert B. Silvers Foundation is a charitable trust established by a bequest of the late Robert B. Silvers, a founding editor of The New York Review of Books, with the aim of supporting writers working in the fields of long-form literary and arts criticism, the intellectual essay, political analysis, and social reportage. Such support takes the form of the annual Silvers Grants for Work in Progress, given since 2019, and the Silvers-Dudley Prizes, bestowed annually beginning in 2022.

Criteria
- English-language writers of any nationality may apply.
- Applications should be submitted as a PDF to grants, and should include:
- A cover page,
- A one-page description of the project,
- A budgetary statement,
- A 500–2,000 word sample of the writer’s work,
- A curriculum vitae.
- The cover page should include your name, the title of your work, the type of project (whether essay- or book-length), your publisher, and the amount of requested support.
- A budgetary statement should include anticipated costs as well as other sources of funding, including advances and additional grants. Priority is given to projects that have not been supported by a significant advance or grant (based on the judges’ discretion).
- The writing sample can be an excerpt from the writer’s work in progress or from a previously published essay, article, or book.
