Grant Duration: 2 years

Details:

Rooted in LGBTQIA+ communities and movements, the foundation work in strategic partnership with foundations, individuals, and governments to ensure that their resources reach the activists who need them most and who are best positioned to make transformational impact over time. To this end, they raise and distribute funds to programs and initiatives serving and led by BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ communities.

Recognizing the exacerbated impact of housing insecurity for the BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ community during the ongoing pandemic and the historic compounding impacts of housing discrimination, gentrification, racism, and transmisogyny, Astraea is inviting letters of interest from organizations that are working to advance long-term, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions for BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ people, particularly in the US South. They are also interested in projects centering land acquisition and long-term access to sustainable resources for BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ people who have been impacted by housing insecurity, discrimination, gentrification, racism, and transmisogyny.

Grant Priorities

The Foundation are particularly interested in proposals that focus on:

  • Creating long term, affordable and sustainable housing for BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+people–particularly in the US South.
  • Projects purchasing or developing land in the pursuit of BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ people who have been impacted by climate driven displacement, or are pursuing long-term community sustainability resources.
  • Projects establishing new formal entities, such as Community Land Trusts, and creating everyday spaces with distinct spatial and aesthetic characteristics to BIPOC 2SLBQTIA+ communities.
  • Projects working to revitalize communities that have been subject to gentrification or are chronically under-resourced (Ie, places that have experienced natural disasters, rural communities).

Funding Information

Grants ranging from $30,000 to $60,000 over two years will be awarded based on the proposals received, and can be a one-time payment or divided into two payments.
