Goals
The goals of the MCF are:
- To create a rational process by which funding requests are evaluated in the context of an overall budget, with funds allocated based on need and benefits to the community.
- To allow for the subsequent review of grants to ensure that they were spent as intended.
- To relieve voters of making funding decisions on an ad hoc basis with little information.
- To maintain the city’s commitment to funding non-profit organizations.
Funding Information
- The MCF does not have a requirement for grant request amounts. In FY23, thirty-seven grants totaling $134,150 were awarded, ranging in size from $300 to $16,000.
- The funding period for the current open round (applications due May 15, 2023) is for the City’s fiscal year 2024, which runs from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
Eligible Applicants
Non-profit organizations that benefit the residents of Montpelier are eligible to apply to the MCF. In addition, individual artists and community groups are eligible for specific arts projects or events that benefit the community.
