Community-based Grants to Support Recreation Opportunities for DC Youth

The District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is proud to announce Recreation For All Community Grants to support community-based programs, activities, and events that will engage youth, provide recreation opportunities, and or promote skill development.

Details:

DPR will empower recreators in underserved communities with barriers to high quality and affordable recreation opportunities.

“Rec for ALL grants will help deepen DPR’s reach into the community and meet youth where they are to enhance the District’s violence prevention methods,” said DPR Director Hunter. “They encourage all those with a vision for new recreational programs to apply and empower underserved youth with high quality and affordable recreation opportunities.”

These grants will empower community-based organizations to engage youth ages 6-18 through recreation with an emphasis on those with barriers to access. The $3 million investment is expected to support at least 250 grants that will reach over 10,000 DC youth.

Rec for ALL Grants include:

  • Support Grants: Up to $5,000 to purchase equipment, supplies, and materials for existing programs including sports, cultural arts, and youth development. Examples include uniforms, football equipment, art supplies, musical instruments, permit/rental fees, insurance, promotional materials, food/snacks, etc.
  • Engagement Grant: Up to $10,000 to support field trips and other engagement activities for youth groups. Examples include field trips to the movies, plays, bowling, laser tag, amusement park, sporting events, dinner, etc. for existing groups such as athletic teams and youth development groups.
  • Event and Travel Grant: Up to $10,000 to support either an event, tournament, or travel for athletic competition for youth groups. Examples include events that primarily engage youth such as a summer league basketball tournament, youth festival, 5K run/walks.
  • Programming Grant: Up to $150,000 to support the launch or expansion of a new or existing recurring program. Please note: This grant is geared towards established organizations and may include funding for staff. Examples include adding late evening/night hours to the program for the summer, new summer camp, coding classes, or additional fine or performing art classes.

Eligibility Criteria

Organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • DC-based non-profit with 501(c)(3) status, business, or community based organization.
  • Demonstrate a track record of working with youth in DC.
  • Program, activity, or event must serve youth between the ages of 6 and 18.
  • Program, activity, or event must serve youth residing in DC.
  • Programming Grant Applicants – Organizations must already have, or be able to acquire programming space. DPR cannot guarantee programming space to applicants.
