City of Inglewood Small Business Champions Economic Grant (California)

The City of Inglewood has launched a small business grant program, to award up to $4 million using the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Details:

The City of Inglewood Small Business Champions Economic Opportunity Grant will support the recovery and stabilization of local small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Priority consideration will be given to small disadvantaged businesses, which include minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses, as well as businesses that operate in Qualified Census Tracts (QCTS). There is a limited allocation of funds available for this Program; therefore, depending on the number of businesses that apply, it is possible that not all eligible businesses can be assisted. Applying for funding is not a guarantee of receipt of funding.

Funding Information

This one-time grant of up to $20,000 will fund small businesses in the City of Inglewood impacted by the pandemic.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Business must be located and operating within the boundaries of the City of Inglewood.
  • A current City of Inglewood business license is required for applicable small business.
  • City of Inglewood Business Tax Certificate.
  • Eligible businesses must have experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
    Businesses must be able to provide supporting evidence of the alleged financial hardship and be willing to self-attest under penalty of perjury that the business experienced financial hardship.
  • Businesses must have an “ACTIVE” status with the CA Secretary of State.
  • For businesses with multiple locations, only employment and revenue figures for the Inglewood location(s) can be used to qualify for a grant under this Program. All grant funds received must be used only to support Inglewood business operations. Multiple locations within the City of Inglewood operating under a single business entity will be considered one business for the purpose of this Program.

The following businesses are not eligible:

  • Businesses that are not located and actively operating in the City of Inglewood
  • Gambling facilities
  • Liquor stores
  • Cannabis businesses
  • Franchise businesses that are not independently owned and operated within the City of Inglewood limits
  • Businesses engaged in any activity that is illegal under federal, state, or local law
  • Businesses not in operation at the time of application or award
  • Passive businesses are not eligible. These include rental properties, vending machines, investment companies, investors who file a Schedule E on their personal tax returns, or any business in which the owner does not actively participate
  • Landlords and property managers
  • Businesses primarily engaged in political or lobbying activities
  • Financial businesses primarily engaged in the business of lending, such as banks, finance companies, investment institutions, and insurance companies
  • Businesses engaged in any socially undesirable activity or activity that may be considered predatory such as check-cashing businesses
