  • Provide education about proper tree planting and establishment care practices
  • Build community through addition of trees within community spaces

The Edmond Tree Grants program fosters community understanding and engagement on and provides education about proper tree care and planting practices.

A partnership between the City and local residents or schools, Edmond Tree Grant projects will enhance tree canopy within areas that are often not served through other Urban Forestry Department programs.

Administered by the City of Edmond Urban Forestry Department, eligible groups within Edmond city limits can apply to receive seedlings, 3-gallon or 15-gallon containerized trees for planting within the areas they manage, as well as a new street tree component for residences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Neighborhood groups and K-12 public schools (or associated parent teacher organizations) within Edmond city limits are eligible to apply. For neighborhoods that are familiar with the Foster-A-Tree program, please be aware that this program is structured very differently.
  • Previous grant recipients may apply for another grant if a past project has been successfully completed and approved by the Urban Forestry Department.
  • Applications will be accepted in summer and reviewed monthly on a first come, first serve basis. If available program budget is used up prior to the set closing date, applications will close until the following program year. Projects will take place during the fall/winter months.

Requirements

  • Neighborhoods: Eligible neighborhood groups may apply for trees to use in a Common Area Planting or a Street Tree Planting.
    • Common Area Planting: Trees will be planted in neighborhood-managed areas such as right-of-ways or platted common areas.
    • Street Tree Planting: Neighborhood groups may request up to 25 trees in 3-gallon containers for distribution to residents as street trees. Street trees must be planted in the front yard of a residence, visible from and within 20 feet of the street
  • K-12 Public Schools: For eligible public schools, projects must be located on school grounds or right-of-way adjacent to the school. See below for quantities and sizes.
  • Applications must include two Points of Contact for the neighborhood/school group who will be responsible for coordinating with the Urban Forestry Department on project details, overseeing project implementation and maintenance, and corresponding with Urban Forestry up until approval of the Final Inspection.
  • The Points of Contact will facilitate the planting of the trees themselves or through a contractor, adhering to the planting specifications detailed in the Edmond Tree Grants Manual. Engagement of the neighborhood or school community on planting and maintenance of the trees is highly encouraged.
