Economic and Community Development grants are for organizations that are located in Linn County, Iowa or that have a branch location in Linn County and whose work benefits Linn County residents.

Funding Information

For the current FY24 Economic & Community Development Fund, $100,000 is available.

Eligible Projects 

Grant funds must be used for projects or programs that benefit Linn County residents. Applications for programmatic and capital projects will have priority over requests for operating support. Preferred applications will be for projects/programs that accomplish the following:

  • Promote economic growth and/or community development in Linn County
  • Demonstrate return on investment dollars
  • Do not duplicate current economic development initiatives
  • Demonstrate a sustainability plan for project continuation beyond Linn County funding
  • The Board of Supervisors established the Linn County Economic Development Fund following the 2008 flood to foster and support economic growth in Linn County.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Economic & Community Development grants will be made to organizations that are located in Linn County, Iowa, or that have a branch location in Linn County and whose work benefits Linn County residents.
  • Applicants who have not completed previously funded projects or submitted the required final report for previous Economic & Community Development grants are not eligible for funding without specific Board of Supervisors approval.

Evaluation Criteria

The Board of Supervisors will evaluate each application using the following criteria, which appear in no order of importance.

  • Demonstrates an economic and/or community development impact
  • Has the potential for a long-term economic and/or community development impact
  • Demonstrates the potential for a return on investment
  • Serves a broad segment of the population
  • Clearly describes the program or project goals
  • Demonstrates a sound financial plan to sustain funding for the program or project
  • Does not duplicate current economic and/or community development initiatives
