The Hartford Foundation’s Catalyst Endowment Fund is a Giving Circle of generous, civic-minded donors from the Greater Hartford area. Each year, members select a topic, with the goal of making one or more grants that will be catalytic in the 29-town region served by the Hartford Foundation. All qualifying projects are expected to complete implementation within a year.
Through educational programs, Catalyst members focused their efforts on learning about the housing crisis and the growing issue of homelessness. Increasing costs of rent across the region have made access to safe, affordable housing a challenge for many Greater Hartford residents.
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving invite proposals that support one or more of the following areas:
- Eviction prevention supports that target residents most at risk of experiencing homelessness, including assistance with rental deposit, legal services, or other services.
- Wrap around services that support individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of being homeless.
Funding Information
The fund has $68,000 available to award. One or more grants will be awarded totaling $68,000, based on the size of the project, funding need, and quality of plans responding to this RFP.
Criteria for Consideration
Strong applications should clearly articulate:
- Organizational Capacity/Request: Briefly describe the mission of the organization, current services, and the purpose and amount of the grant request. Organization must demonstrate at least one year of homeless support services in the Greater Hartford area.
- Need/Impact: What is the need being addressed by the project, and what benefit will the project provide to the community? Discuss evidence of need, number of people to be served, outcomes of the existing or similar programs, and related issues. Discuss plans for ensuring that proposed work will be community informed, catalytic, and impactful.
- Approach: The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recognizes and honors the expertise and experience of applicants to be able to identify the most effective methods to support this pressing issue
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofits with a 501c3 designation that are located in or provide significant services in the Greater Hartford region are eligible to apply.
- Community groups, or groups of residents, that do not have a 501c3 tax status, are encouraged to apply through a fiscal sponsor.
