Bloomberg Philanthropies awarded 26 U.S. cities grants to help transform streets and public spaces through its Asphalt Art Initiative, which provides funds and technical support for arts-driven street redesigns that improve safety, revitalize public spaces, and engage local communities. In 10 of the cities, the Asphalt Art Initiative will work on enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Selected cities will receive a grant of up to $25,000.
Requirements
- This project is open to artists at least 18 years of age and can legally complete a contract with the City of Houston.
- Preference will be to artists living or working within the Gulfton community of Houston, Texas. Immigrant or refugee artists with a working portfolio demonstrating cultural diversity will be considered a plus.
- Artists must work effectively and collaboratively with the City of Houston and project team members to develop the final approved design proposal ideas.
- Artists should consider the project timeline before submitting a proposal.
