Grants for Nonprofit Arts and Arts Education Organizations in New Jersey

Dated: July 31, 2023

The Princeton Area Community Foundation is currently accepting for its New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund to provide financial support to catalyze an equitable statewide recovery and build resilience for New Jersey-based smaller nonprofit arts and culture organizations.

Donor Name: Princeton Area Community Foundation

State: New Jersey

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 08/31/2023

Size of the Grant: Up to $50,000

Details:

Phase 7 of the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund (NJARCF) grantmaking will provide unrestricted grants to eligible nonprofit arts and arts education organizations managing ongoing post-pandemic challenges, experiencing unexpected reductions in funding and/or negatively impacted by non-pandemic challenges. While the grant application is open to all arts and arts education organizations who meet eligibility requirements, in recognition of long-standing disparities in funding and acknowledging that the pandemic disproportionately affected Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC), it will prioritize small to medium-sized organizations that are BIPOC-led and/or BIPOC-serving.

The New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund centers equity in its grantmaking. The Fund seeks to address the underrepresentation and incomplete storytelling that has marginalized the creative, historical, and intellectual contributions of Black, Indigenous, Latinx and other People of Color (BIPOC) in New Jersey.

Priority Criteria

The foundation anticipates the number of requests will exceed the available funds in this round of grantmaking. The foundation will consider the following aspects of the requests and give priority to:

  • Arts and arts education organizations working in and/or for underserved communities in southern, central, and northern New Jersey.
  • Organizations currently and historically most affected by systemic injustice.
  • Organizations serving communities most vulnerable to the impact of various sector disruptions and/or pursuing social justice and/or racial justice work through arts and arts education programming.
  • Organizations with narratives and programs that include the creative and intellectual contributions of Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) in New Jersey
  • Organizations with clear evidence of engagement with their community.
  • Organizations that are BIPOC-led and/or BIPOC-serving.
  • Organizations showing clear evidence of inclusive and intentional practices in Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion (DEAI).

Funding Information

Organizations can apply for up to $50,000. Request amount should not exceed 25% of the organization’s operational budget.

Eligibility Criteria

The foundation will accept applications from organizations that meet the following eligibility requirements. The applicant must:

  • Be incorporated in New Jersey as a 501(c)(3) and serve New Jersey communities;
  • Have primary programming in one or more New Jersey counties;
  • Employ at least one year-round, part time paid employee or at least one unpaid year round part time dedicated volunteer working a minimum of 20 hours per week in an administrative or a combined administrative/artistic leadership role;
  • Have a primary mission focused on arts or arts education;
  • Be in operation for a minimum of two years prior to the application;
  • Have budget expenses and revenue of $5 million or less.

The following are not eligible for this funding opportunity

  • Organizations without a dedicated volunteer or staff member to oversee administrative activities.
  • Local, state, or federal government agencies.
  • Organizations that offer arts and/or arts education programming but whose mission is not primarily arts or arts education, such as social services or community development organizations, zoos, science centers, and botanical gardens.
  • Stand-alone or one-time festivals, conferences, or other events. Stand-alone publications, films/videos, or websites.
  • Religious organizations.
  • Groups that are legally, financially, or operationally part of a larger institution, e.g., the art or arts education department of a college.
  • Colleges, universities, or Pre-K to 12 educational institutions.
  • History organizations
