2024 LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Training Grant (District of Columbia)

The Mayor’s Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Affairs (MOLGBTQA) invites qualified Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) serving the District of Columbia’s LGBTQIA+ community to apply for its 2024 LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Training Grant.

Details:

The grant program aims to support organizational change and increase safety and understanding for LGBTQIA+ clients and staff. The grant program will fund CBOs that can provide effective and inclusive LGBTQIA+ cultural competency training to other organizations in the District.

Funding Areas

Funding to support these efforts is to enhance cultural competency and create safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals. MOLGBTQA aims to empower CBOs to conduct training sessions for staff and volunteers, as well as to implement changes in organizations better to meet the needs and preferences of this population. Funding is available for:

  • Housing providers and DC shelters who serve LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults experiencing homelessness throughout Washington, DC.
  • First responders who serve the LGBTQIA+ community throughout Washington, DC.

Funding Information

Award sizes will vary, and eligible organizations can be funded up to $50,000 per year. If selected to train first responders, the organization will receive an award for one (1) year and up to $50,000.00 starting on October 1, 2023, and ending on September 30, 2024.  If selected to train housing providers, organizations will be awarded a multi-year grant (two (2) years) and up to $100,000.00 starting on October 1, 2023, and ending on September 30, 2025.

Target Population

MOLGBTQA provides funding to organizations that conduct cultural competency training for nonprofits, first responders, and DC homeless shelters serving the homeless LGBTQ youth and young adult population throughout Washington, DC.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants shall meet the following conditions to apply for the 2024 LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Training Grant:

  • The organization is a CBO with a Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or evidence of fiscal agent relationship with a 501(c)(3) organization; or be a private entity, such as a coalition or association, that is partnering with at least one or more 501(c)(3) organization(s);
  • The organization’s principal place of business must be located in the District of Columbia; if a national or regional organization, it must have a location in the District through which it provides services;
  • The organization must provide services to DC residents or collaborate with an organization that provides services to DC residents through the organizational efforts of the applicant;
  • The organization must be currently registered in good standing with the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), and the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR);
  • All services and programming funded by the grant must be provided in the District of Columbia; and
