Deadline: 01/11/2024

Size of the Grant: $50,000 to $500,000

Grant Duration: 3 Years

Details:

A primary goal of this program is to carry out the inventory, evaluation, protection, and management of unique archeological resources and it also encompasses recreation improvements and wildlife habitat. The program will focus funded partnerships on key activities in support of the Department of Interior’s priorities to address the climate crisis, restore balance on public lands and waters, advance environmental justice, strengthening the government-to-government relationship with sovereign Tribal Nations, and invest in a clean energy future, where there is clear alignment of bureau priorities.

The Lincoln County Land Act of 2000 directs that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) deposit 85 percent of proceeds from the sale of public land in Lincoln County into a special Treasury account that is available to the Secretary of the Interior without further appropriation. One purpose of the account is to make funds available for inventory, evaluation, protection, and management of unique archaeological resources in Lincoln County. Therefore, BLM has established the Lincoln County Archaeological Initiative (LCAI) to allocate monies from the account for archaeological projects to carry out the purposes of the Act. Each year the Archaeological Resources Team with oversight by the Partners Working Group and the Executive Committee establishes priorities for LCAI archaeological projects and solicits proposals from eligible entities. All proposals received, whether as a cooperative agreement, contract, or inter-agency agreement will be evaluated together.

This program provides support and guidance for carrying out the expenditure of appropriated funds generated from the sale of public lands in Lincoln and White Pine Counties in eastern Nevada.

Proposals must be on lands within Lincoln County, Nevada

A proposal under this priority should include the following:

  • A clear description of a research problem or need by reference to an existing historic context and by analysis of existing archaeological literature.
  • Identify the archaeological data necessary to address the archaeological problem or need and the volume of data required.
  • A research design which contains the objective of the proposed research, the methods proposed to obtain the information and how that information will be analyzed and described.
  • Address and evaluate the archaeological problem in a professional technical report.
  • Provide implications and recommendations regarding the results of the analysis.
  • Detail how the information will be disseminated to fellow professionals and/or the public and in what manner.
