The City of Corona is excited to announce a Small Business Grants program to strengthen the resilience and growth of Corona-based, small businesses.

Details:

The City of Corona has appropriated $600,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to support small businesses to respond to the negative economic impacts of COVID-19 and to reinvigorate local economic recovery.

This Grant funding will be allocated throughout the city of Corona, to eligible applicants who meet the qualifications, provide the requested documentation, agree to the terms of funding, and provide receipts for eligible expenses, until the funding is expended.

There are two award programs:

  • Entrepreneur Grant Program
    • This program is designed to support very small business operations with four (4) or fewer FTE employees. Eligible grantees must have a physical, home-based, OR commercial operation within the Corona city limits. Funds can be utilized to support business operations.
    • To be eligible for funding the business must be in operation in the city of Corona.
  • Small Business Grant Program 
    • This program is designed to support small business operations with (5) five to (25) twenty-five FTE employees. Eligible grantees must have a physical, commercial operation within Corona city limits. (Home-based businesses are not eligible.)
    • To be eligible for funding the business must be in operation in the city of Corona.

Funding Information

  • Entrepreneur Grant Program
    • There will be (60) sixty, $5,000.00 awards given on a first come, first served basis to eligible applicants.
  • Small Business Grant Program
    • There will be (30) thirty, $10,000.00 awards given on a first come, first served basis to eligible applicants.

Uses of Funds

Awards are based on eligible, reimbursable expenses. Businesses must be able to show proof of how funds were spent to qualify. The applicant must show proof of purchases through an invoice with proof of payment, such as a bank statement or cancelled check (front/back) and will highlight and upload the documents as part of the application process.

The grant award must be used on current or past expenses from January 1, 2022 – current to support business operations in the city of Corona. Examples include employee payroll, inventory and utilities. General operating expenses, such as certification or license fees & PPE equipment are also eligible. Receipts and/or documentation must be uploaded in the application prior to funding approval.

Accepted receipts include, but are not limited to:

  • General ledger/expense transaction report
  • Payroll register or labor distribution report
  • Payroll allocation plan
  • Personnel documentation
  • Invoices, and receipts (with highlighted expenses)
  • Check register
  • Bank statements
  • Paper receipts from a big box store (with highlighted expenses).

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Entrepreneur Grant Program
    • Private, for-profit business
    • Business must have been operating in Corona on or before January 1, 2022
    • Up to date on required licenses and permits
    • Proof of home or office/building lease with business address
    • Recipients must have been affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency, including a reduction in revenue, layoffs, or voluntary and involuntary forced closures.
  • Small Business Grant Program
    • Private, for-profit business
    • Business must have been operating in Corona by January 1, 2022
    • Up to date on required licenses and permits
    • Proof of lease or grant deed, with businesses address
    • Revenue cap of no more than $1 million in annual revenue for 2022 Federal Tax reporting
    • Recipients must have been affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency, including a reduction in revenue, layoffs, or voluntary and involuntary forced closures.
