Details:
Through a partnership with the Otto Bremer Trust (OBT) and its Community Responsive Fund, SMIF will award grants to organizations whose work aligns with one or more of the Otto Bremer Trust Community Responsive Fund focus areas:
- Literacy
- Organizations and programs advancing literacy
- Reading, writing, speaking, and other language skills needed to navigate civic, social, and economic systems
- Includes early childhood literacy, tutoring programs, adult basic education, English as a second language
- Ineligible: Health literacy, digital literacy, etc.
- Adoption and foster care services
- Organizations and programs that support adoption and foster care.
- Children’s health
- Children’s disability services
- Organizations and programs focused on supporting children with physical/cognitive disabilities.
- Mental health
- Organizations and programs that support access to and delivery of mental health services, with preference given to work that addresses the needs of children aged 5-15.
Funding Information
- Grants may be up to $75,000 per organization
- Grant funds must be spent within 12 months of receiving grant.
Eligibility Criteria
- The organization must have a 501(c)(3) determination from the IRS. (Government entities, including public schools, are not eligible)
- The organization must have at least five years of successful operations
- The organization’s last fiscal year’s actual expenses must have been $2 million or more
- The organization may not have an open OBT strategic grant
- Beneficiaries of grantees must reside within SMIF’s 20-county region or Native nation (Prairie Island Indian Community): Blue Earth, Fillmore, Le Sueur, Olmsted, Wabasha, Brown, Freeborn, Martin, Rice, Waseca, Dodge, Goodhue, Mower, Sibley, Watonwan, Faribault, Houston, Nicollet, Steele, Winona.
