The City of Murfreesboro Community Development Department is currently accepting applications from local non-profit agencies for three grants for services and housing qualifying residents.
“CDBG’s purpose is to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities to low-and moderate-income and moderate-income people.”
The CDBG program has three national objectives:
- provide a direct benefit(s) to low to moderate income households.
- Prevent or eliminate slum or blight
- Address an urgent need or problem within the community.
Types of Grants
- The CDBG Public Service Grant is a capacity-building grant for agencies providing services to the low-moderate income community within the City.
- The Emergency Solutions Grant is available to nonprofit agencies providing necessary services to help people who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness to quickly regain stability and permanent housing.
- The HOME Investment Partnership Grant focuses on the housing needs of the low-moderate income community within the City. The primary objective of the HOME Program is to expand affordable housing options for persons of low and moderate-income by:
- Providing decent affordable housing to low-income residents
- Expanding the capacity of non-profit housing providers
- Strengthening the ability of state and local governments to provide housing
- Leveraging private sector participation.
Eligible Activities
- Eligible Public Service activities include but are not limited to: Youth services/programs, educational programs, job training, recreational programs, services for seniors, homeless services.
- Eligible Emergency Solutions activities include: Homelessness Prevention, Rapid Rehousing, Emergency Shelter, Street Outreach, and HMIS.
- Eligible HOME activities include but are not limited to: Homeowner Rehabilitation, Homebuyer Assistance, Rental Housing, and Tenant Based Rental Assistance.
