Details:

The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to enhancing the vitality of the commercial areas. Funding is provided through a federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

By improving the visual appeal of the commercial areas, they can:

  • Boost economic activity: Attract more customers, increase foot traffic and stimulate local spending.
  • Enhance property values: Improve the overall aesthetic of the area, leading to increased property values for businesses and nearby residents.
  • Create a stronger sense of community: Foster a more vibrant and engaging experience for everyone.
  • Promote local businesses: Support the growth and success of local entrepreneurs.

Funding Information

Business owners can receive up to $10,000 through a matching grant, with the program paying 50% of the improvement costs and the business owners paying the other 50%. For example, if a business owner wishes to purchase new doors and an awning, and the total project cost is $20,000, the business owner can apply for a grant and be reimbursed $10,000.

Eligible Projects 

Exterior painting, lighting, door/window repairs, awnings, landscaping, signage, minor façade improvements, living wall installation.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Building Type: Applicants must have a for-profit business with facades visible from the street. Improvements must be limited to the street-facing portion of the building.
  • Ownership Requirements: Both business owners and property owners are eligible to apply for the grant as well as tenants. If the applicant is a tenant of the property, then permission from the property owner must be obtained.
