The Williams Music Education Grant program is designed to support music as a life-long pursuit in the McLean County and surrounding community for traditional music education activities as well as less-formal, participatory music activities that have an education mission.

Details:
Traditional music ensembles may include, for example, wind or jazz bands, orchestras, choirs, or the like in their various forms; participatory/folk ensembles may include, for example, guitars, ukuleles, Orff instruments, ethnic instruments, vocal groups, and other similar groupings. Music learning and music making for all ages and levels of music ability are supported by the grant program, including those who are disadvantaged or require special-needs.
Specifically within the broad scope of this grant, program proposals:
- Must clearly articulate how the activity will serve music education to as wide and diverse an audience as possible.
- Should request funding for a one-time, non-recurring need.
- May support a need to fund a clinician, visiting artist, composer commission, but not funding for general administrative, personnel or operating costs.
- May support the one-time purchase of unique needs for music equipment in support of music programs, ensembles and activities that promote creating, performing or producing music experiences.
- May explore the use of innovative technology in creative ways for music learning, creativity and performing experiences using any combination of instruments and music technology.
Funding Information
Funding requests should be for a minimum of $500; the range of grant awards in 2024 was $600 to $5,000 (average grant award was $2,270).
Grant Period
Grant funding is for the period of June 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026.
Eligibility Requirements
- Program must deal specifically with one of the following: education, health and wellness, or youth; funding may support a new or existing program
- Applicants must have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, operate under a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)3 organization, be a unit of local, county, state or federal government, or be a tax-exempt religious organization as recognized by the IRS
- Program must be available to residents of McLean, DeWitt, Livingston or Logan Counties; however, programs do not have to serve all four counties
- Program must be operated and organized in such a manner that no applicable antidiscrimination laws are violated; program must not proselytize for a particular religion or cause
- Organizations that have received past grants from Illinois Prairie Community Foundation must be current on all grant Final Reports
- Executive Director, CEO or President of the Board of an organization applying must approve the application.
