CS – Community Safety Grants provide funding to nonprofit organizations whose mission includes activities to enhance the capability of communities to prepare for and respond to hazmat accidents and incidents.
For award consideration, nonprofit organizations must demonstrate the ability to conduct national outreach and training programs to help communities prepare for and respond to accidents and incidents involving the transportation of HAZMAT, including Class 3 flammable liquids by rail, and train state and local personnel responsible for enforcing the safe transportation of HAZMAT, including Class 3 flammable liquids.

- Award Ceiling: $100,000
- Award Floor: $1,500.
Grant Period
The period of performance is a minimum of 12 months from the effective date of the award. An applicant may request a period of performance up to 24 months.

- Private institutions of higher education
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education.
