The Emergency Solutions Grant focuses on assisting people to quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. The ESG program provides funding to:
- Engage homeless individuals and families living on the street;
- Improve the number and quality of emergency shelters for homeless individuals and families;
- Help operate these shelters;
- Provide essential services to shelter residents;
- Rapidly re-house homeless individuals and families; and
- Prevent families and individuals from becoming homeless.

Grant Period
The FY 2026 contract period will be July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
Eligible Activities
The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program provides homeless persons with basic shelter and essential supportive services. ESG funds may be used for five program components:
- Street Outreach
- Emergency Shelter
- Homelessness Prevention
- Rapid Re-Housing Assistance
- Data Collection (HMIS)
Eligibility Criteria
The lead organization applying for the grant must have an IRS designation of 501(c)(3), or be a government or quasi-government agency.
