Details:
The intention of the grants is to improve the economic viability of the Agriculture industry by encouraging Frederick County’s agricultural producers to expand or diversify their business operations. Eligible applicants must be a crop or livestock producer, value-added producer, agricultural cooperative, seafood processor, or primary or secondary timber products processor. Applicants can receive grants for research and development, production buildings, major fixtures, and processing facilities. Prior recipients of an Agriculture Innovation Grant are eligible to apply but must be in good standing with the expense reporting for that prior grant.
Funding Information
- Minimum grants of $5,000 will be available.
Grant Period
- Projects must be completed within six months of the date the grant agreement is executed
- A three-month extension to complete the project may be requested and will be examined for approval case by case.
Eligible Expenses
Eligible expenses are capital assets that will help farmers diversify their operations and can include:
- Research and development
- Production buildings
- Major fixtures
- Processing facilities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be currently operating in Frederick County for at least a year
- Must have recorded at least $2,500 in annual (not cumulative) sales OR include an outline of your investment in the operation and its impact on future sales in your business plan
- Must have documented evidence (e.g. email) of outreach to Planning & Zoning to discuss the requirements of your proposed project
- Must fall into one of the below categories:
- Crop or livestock producer
- Value-added producer
- Agricultural cooperative
- Seafood processor
- Primary or secondary timber products processor.
