The Social Justice Fund NorthWest has launched the Emerging Justice Fund to move unrestricted funds to resource communities and grassroots organizing for communities that have been and continue to be targeted by Federal, State and Local policies.

Details:

In an effort to continue responding to the needs of the community, organizers, and activists, SJF is excited to launch its new grant cycle, the 2025 Emerging Justice Fund. The Emerging Justice Fund will fund organizations that are aligned with SJF’s intentions and have been under-represented in traditional grantmaking.

The Emerging Justice Fund will move unrestricted funds to resource grassroots organizing for communities that have been and continue to be targeted by Federal, State and Local policies. Aligned with SJF’s intention to continue to move resources to groups that are most under-represented in traditional grantmaking, the Emerging Justice Fund will resource organizations that are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color-led.

Priorities

SJF will prioritize organizations in both the prescreening and final decision process that:

  • Have leadership (at least 51%) from Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities and/or
  • Organizations located in rural/small towns/reservation/tribal communities: SJF defines rural as any location in the five-state region that is outside of the Seattle and Portland metropolitan.

Funding Information

1-year grant of $10,000.

Eligibility Criteria 

Eligible organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Organizations that work within SJF’s community-organizing framework
  • Nonprofit organizations, tribal agencies, or groups sponsored by a nonprofit organization or tribal agency
  • This grant can fund:
    • Organizations with 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 status as determined by the IRS
    • American Indian/Native American/First Nation Tribal Government or Agency
    • Organizations that are fiscally sponsored by 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 organizations or tribal governments
    • Organizations that carry out their work in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and/or Wyoming.
