These grants aim to support CBOs that offer summer programs focused on advancing the health and well-being of youth and adolescents across New York City and Westchester County.
Summer programs can play a critical role in the development of children and adolescents by providing structured opportunities for learning, personal growth, and skill-building during the months when school is not in session. These programs offer youth safe and engaging environments where they can explore new interests, develop social connections, and gain essential life skills.
SYEG are one-time grants of $50,000 for CBOs that offer youth enrichment activities throughout the summer. Supported activities include, but are not limited to:
- Career Readiness & Workforce Development
- Educational Opportunities
- Creative & Artistic Experiences
- Physical Fitness & Healthy Living
- Leadership & Civic Engagement.
Organizations across New York City and Westchester County are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to CBOs operating in the following neighborhoods:
- Chinatown/Lower East Side
- Corona
- Crown Heights
- Harlem
- Inwood
- Mt. Vernon
- Peekskill
- Washington Heights
- White Plains.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for consideration:
- Applicants must be a governmental agency or non-profit organization and provide proof of 501(c)(3) status.
- Applicants that have not obtained 501(c)(3) status, but operate under a fiscal sponsor, may apply (proof of fiscal sponsorship will be required).
- Applicants cannot be affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals and regional facilities.
- Applicants must have operating budgets over $500,000.
- Projects submitted must engage and serve children and/or adolescents who live within New York City and/or Westchester County.
- Projects submitted must address or consider issues of health and wellness, equity and justice, youth development, job preparedness or training, and/or carceral diversion systems.
- Current or past recipients of NewYork-Presbyterian funding are eligible to apply.
Funding provided by these grants must be used directly for programmatic function including:
- Salaries or payments to staff (includes teaching assistants, specialized contractors, consultants, etc.)
- Materials, supplies, or other products required for programmatic work
- Stipends or payments for youth employment
- Operational functions (e.g., fees for use of a space)
Funding provided by these grants may not be used for:
- For-profit entities
- Strategic planning
- Staff salaries not related to the program
- Program expenses outside of summer enrichment
- Data collection, analysis, or research
- Conference attendance or membership dues.
