2023-2024 Transportation Justice Fellowship for Early-and Mid-Career Professionals

Dated: August 28, 2023

The Better Bike Share Partnership created the Transportation Justice Fellowship to support US-based early- and mid-career professionals, with 1-8 years of experience, who are working to embed mobility justice in transportation agency priorities and beyond.

Donor Name: Better Bike Share Partnership

State: All States

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Fellowship

Deadline: 09/22/2023

Grant Duration: 8 months

Details:

Transportation justice aims to provide communities with access to safe, reliable, affordable, and equitable transportation, connecting people to the places, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive.

The Fellowship amplifies the voices of people of color working in the transportation sector, providing professional development and networking opportunities.

The 2023-2024 Fellowship will focus on Shared Micromobility (SMM) as a critical tool for operationalizing equity and transportation justice. Applicants should have familiarity with bike and scooter share, as well as a desire to learn more. The Fellowship runs from November 2023 through June 2024. The Fellowship is a unique opportunity for professionals interested in:

  • Focusing on Shared Micromobility (SMM) as a tool for operationalizing equity and transportation justice
  • Building relationships among peers working in transportation and mobility justice
  • Enhancing skills that strengthen the ability to advance justice in agencies or organizations
  • Building skills and tools required to thrive in the transportation field
  • Identifying new opportunities for your individual and organizational growth
  • Developing a project of personal interest that can be presented at NACTO’s Designing Cities Conference in May 2024 (Conference travel and accommodations are included as part of the Fellowship.)

Program Features

The cohort will include 50 hours of programming for 8 Fellows, all receiving training from an experienced consultant team, visits from experts in the transportation sector, and coaching sessions from specialists. This year’s Fellowship will focus on Shared Micromobility (SMM) as a critical tool for operationalizing equity and transportation justice. From tools for professional growth, to insights on how to promote equity in the transportation sector, the Transportation Justice Fellowship offers a talented group of change agents the opportunity to learn together and advance to the forefront of transportation justice in the U.S.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The program content is designed for mobility practitioners with 1-8 years of experience in the field who have — or will eventually have to — confront the dynamics of power and equity in the workplace. Professionals from marginalized groups are strongly encouraged to apply. This fellowship is only open to people of color who have experience working in transportation, shared micromobility, or an adjacent field (i.e. a health professional that works on bike share). Applicants may work in any U.S. city, as well as any sector.
  • From tools for professional growth to insights on promoting equity in the transportation sector, the Transportation Justice Fellowship offers a talented group of change agents the chance to learn together and advance to the forefront of transportation justice in the U.S.
