The CFMC’s Community Impact grants program focuses on the people and places of Monterey County, California, highlighting impact and seeking measurable results. The CFMC supports effective programs that expand access to services and programs for residents throughout Monterey County and address opportunity/ achievement gaps that increase equity (everyone has the same starting point regardless of ethnicity or income).

Community Impact grants address critical issues and opportunities for five primary program areas that advance the CFMC’s mission and vision for Monterey County. In each program area, they have defined specific priorities that build upon their past grant making and initiatives, and are based on an analysis of local needs, aspirations, assets and opportunities for achieving strategic results

Program Areas

  • Children & Youth Development:
    • They invest programs that help children and youth reach their full potential by focusing on efforts that narrow opportunity/achievement gaps.
  • Health & Human Services:
    • They support in prevention and early intervention services that improve the physical and mental health of individuals and families, support programs that promote independent living and efforts that ensure that the basic living needs of Monterey County’s residents with the least access are met.
  • Arts and Culture:
    • They foster efforts that broaden and deepen participation in quality artistic experiences, especially among young people, diverse communities and other new audiences
  • Historic Preservation:
    • They support activities that preserve and increase understanding of Monterey County’s history.
  • Community Development:
    • They invest in community-building activities that engage individuals and communities to lead efforts that create opportunities for local problem solving.
  • Environment & Animal Welfare:
    • They fund programs that educate and involve local residents in protecting and preserving our natural resources and sustaining healthy ecosystems

Funding Information

Approximately $2 million is available each year. Eligible organizations have two application options:

  • Community Impact: ($20,001-$50,000)
  • Small Grants: ($5,000-$20,000)

Grant Duration:

  • Community Impact grants typically cover a period of 11 months.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Community Impact grants are open to 501(c) 3 nonprofit organizations and public agencies serving Monterey County residents.
  • All requested funding must directly benefit residents of Monterey County.
  • All organizations applying for a grant must be current on reporting obligations for past CFMC grants.
  • In general, an organization is eligible to receive only one Community Impact grant per calendar year. Only one application per year will be considered. They ask that your application focus on one program area, for example, Children & Youth Development OR Environment, not both. Only one Community Impact grant per organization will be awarded each calendar year unless the grant is for a multi-organization collaborative project.
