DHS Paths to Parenthood Curriculum-Pilot Project Grants (Minnesota)

Dated: October 9, 2023

The Department of Human Services (DHS), through its Child Support Division, is seeking to provide Paths to Parenthood Curriculum – Pilot Project Grants.

Donor Name:  Department of Human Services (DHS)

State: Minnesota

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 11/01/2023

Size of the Grant: $45,000

Grant Duration: 8 months

Details:

Youth and young adults have the potential to benefit from a child support focused parenthood readiness curriculum, however, there are few such programs. Overall, justice involved youth and young adults and those who are at risk for justice involvement can especially benefit from a curriculum to ensure they understand the emotional, legal, and financial realities of parenting before becoming a parent or becoming one again.

DHS-CSD, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 256.01, subdivision 2(a)(6), has authority to enter into contracts to develop, evaluate, and implement pilot projects for community services.

DHS-CSD has developed a Paths to Parenthood curriculum and is seeking eligible grantees to pilot this curriculum. Funding for this pilot of the Paths to Parenthood curriculum, has been provided through the federal grant opportunity number HHS-2020-ACF-OCSE-FD-1832, “Charting a Course for Economic Mobility and Responsible Parenting.”

Funding Information

  • The Department of Human Services (STATE) estimates that up to two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is available to fund up to sixteen (16) grantees using federal funds from the opportunity number HHS-2020-ACF-OCSE-FD-1832, “Charting a Course for Economic Mobility and Responsible Parenting.”
  • Grant Applicants may request funding for up to three (3) cohorts, consisting of eight (8) to fifteen (15) participants in the pilot program, at a rate of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) per cohort. The funding will compensate for staff time for project preparation, training, and administration. When scoring Applications, preference points will be given to Grant Applicants applying for more than one cohort.
  • The maximum initial award for each grantee may not exceed a total of forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000).

Project Period

The term of the initial grant period is anticipated to be from December 15, 2023 to July 30, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible grantees include Community based organizations, government entities and schools who have the expertise and current capacity to provide a curriculum pilot project to a pool of their organization’s enrolled participants who are ages sixteen to twenty-five (16-25) and have experience with the justice system (Justice Involved Youth and Young Adults or JIYYA). Grant Applicants must be both, located and conduct grant activities in the state of Minnesota.
