Funding for Recovery Equity and Expansion Program (Kentucky)

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky (FHKY) is seeking applications for its Funding for Recovery Equity and Expansion (FREE) to support the capacity of services and programing that raise awareness about overdose prevention, reduce stigma associated with substance use disorder, and promote greater access to harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services for persons with opioid and/or stimulant use disorder.

Details:

The desired outcome of this funding opportunity is to reduce overdose deaths and increase the overall well-being of communities of color and other under-resourced and minoritized communities.

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky will provide support to awarded organizations to help develop and implement projects that will have a lasting impact in their communities. This includes:

  • At least one site visit of the program within the grant period.
  • Monthly check-ins with Foundation staff to review financial records and monitor program goals.
  • Monthly collaborative workshops on infrastructure building and program sustainability will be led by the Foundation, KORE, and the Office of Health Equity.

Funding Information

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky will review and select applications submitted by eligible organizations, and the selected organizations will be notified of the award before October 1, 2023.

  • Federal Funding is provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Projects do not require a cost sharing or funding match.
  • A minimum of thirty grants will be funded, each ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
  • Grants of $25,000 and under will be paid in full upon signing of grantee contracts. Grants totaling over $25,000 will be paid 50% of their funds upon the signing of their contracts and 50% of their funds in December of 2023 provided their programing is on schedule.
  • All funded activities must take place within the grant period, from October 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024.

Eligible activities under this grant include, but are not limited to:

  • Outreach and relationship building
  • Stigma reducing marketing campaigns or events
  • Personalized care coordination for individuals with SUD
  • Coalition building amongst service providers to help meet the specialized needs individuals in recovery

Eligibility Criteria

FREE will fund at least 30 organizations that meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Applicant must be a nonprofit organization with 501c status.
  • Applicant is located in the state of Kentucky.
  • Applicant provides services in the state of Kentucky to persons that use opioids (e.g., heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl) and/or stimulants (e.g., cocaine, methamphetamine) Applicant is a community-based organization with established investment and engagement collaborating with communities of color, justice involved individuals, pregnant and parenting women, and/or drug overdose survivors.
  • Applicant’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected via BIPOC representation in their board of directors, staff, and leadership.
