The Indy Arts Council is offering Mental Health & Wellness Grants to support artists and creative workers in navigating and preventing addiction and substance abuse.

Details:

These Mental Health & Wellness Grants will help creative workers who are experiencing social and emotional challenges, and are intended to address, reduce, treat, and prevent substance abuse and addiction, but don’t have sufficient means to obtain treatment. These grants cover one-on-one therapy, support groups, art therapy, and wellness and mindfulness practices.

The funding for this round is made possible through the City of Indianapolis and the Opioid Settlement Funds. 

  • Professional Counseling: $750
    • 1:1 Therapy: Virtual or in-person one-on-one therapy sessions are available from licensed therapists in central Indiana and through national platforms at an average of $60 – $120, while those with health insurance often pay a range of $20 – $60 if a co-pay is required.
    • Support Groups: Support groups are offered for artists and for other like minded groups. Artists may choose their support group and apply for funding to attend.
  • Creative Therapy: $250
    • Art Therapy: Artists may choose to participate in cross-disciplinary art therapy. For example, a musician or writer may choose a visual art based therapy or a visual artist may choose dance therapy.
    • Wellness and Mindfulness: Artists may choose non-therapy options such as yoga, meditation, mindfulness coaching, and similar options

Funding Information

Grant awards will range from $250 to $750.

Eligibility Criteria

Artists must:

  • be 18 years of age or older.
  • be able to provide a Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or A-Number/USCIS Number.
  • be a resident of one of the following counties, which are within the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ service area: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby.
  • have worked professionally in the arts for at least 1 year (artists and arts administrators).
