Program Goals
NYSERDA’s key goals for the program are to:
- Help climate tech companies with products or services that can benefit New York State advance their technical and commercial maturity as quickly as possible and achieve meaningful climate impact through in-market events
- Accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy in New York State by supporting the solutions the State needs to reach its climate goals.
Program Outcomes
Toward these goals, NYSERDA seeks a Program Administrator with an ambitious and compelling plan to achieve program outcomes across the following key areas:
- Increase the number of new climate tech businesses formed, across all regions of New York State, and the number of companies attracted to New York from outside the State
- Engage, accelerate the time to market of, and graduate climate tech companies with products or services that can benefit New York State
- Engage strategic and corporate partners to co-define market problems, co-create technology and business solutions, and support company commercialization with NYSERDA and its partners
- Enable member companies to do the following in New York State:
- Raise seed and follow-on capital from investors, execute investor agreements, secure commercialization assistance from development partners, enter strategic partnerships, and engage customers
- Deploy and complete demonstration projects for key climate solutions
- Commercialize climate tech products and services through executed customer agreements
- Achieve in-market events
- Reach market scale.
Funding Information
The total amount awarded to a Program Administrator under this solicitation is $8,500,000.00. NYSERDA requires at least $1,000,000.00, and up to $2,000,000.00 of the total amount of the awarded funds be allocated towards competitively awarded grants to program member companies, and at least 70% of awarded funds are spent on Direct-to-Company Services.
Eligibility Criteria
- For-profit corporations, not-for-profit organizations, and academic institutions, including public universities, are eligible to apply. Proposers may be existing NYSERDA-sponsored organizations and/or new organizations that are not currently supported by NYSERDA. If potential proposers are unsure whether they are eligible to apply, please contact NYSERDA via the designated contact information provided.
- Proposers do not need to be primarily located in New York State – i.e., their principal place of business and management team do not need to be based within the State – but they must be able to demonstrate benefits to New York (see “Demonstrated Benefits to NY” above) and possess knowledge of the State and/or relationships and networks within the State in order to effectively deliver the required services within the State (see Qualifications below). Proposers must have at least two staff members located within New York State or plans to hire staff members in or relocate staff members to New York State, by the end of the first program year.
- The following eligibility criteria must be met for the proposal to be evaluated and scored:
- Satisfactory performance on NYSERDA projects: The proposer must be in good standing with respect to all requirements of past or current NYSERDA projects, if any, including the delivery of required reporting, including annual metrics reporting, and recoupment.
