The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an Agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is announcing the potential availability of grants and agreements in Kansas for the purpose of leveraging NRCS resources, addressing local natural resource issues, encouraging collaboration, and developing state and community level conservation leadership.

Details:

The purpose of Conservation Collaboration Agreements is to leverage NRCS and Partner resources to assist historically underserved farmers and ranchers and assist farmers and ranchers to improve, restore or maintain natural resources that:

  • Increase the adoption of soil health principles and practices.
  • Improve water quality in source water protection areas, as defined by Kansas NRCS.
  • Increase the awareness and adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry (CSAF) practices.
  • Increase the outreach to non-traditional, tribal, and underserved communities and individuals.
  • Increase/improve wildlife habitat for species of concern.
  • Improve forage balance and grazing distribution on rangeland.

Emphasis will be placed on projects that:

  • Provide increased access to Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry (CSAF) information and assistance.
  • Measure value of soil health practices and principles.
  • Improve and increase natural resource conservation in urban areas and along with the rural/urban interface.
  • Demonstrate innovation and efficiency in conservation planning and follow-up.
  • Offer opportunities to reach and impact socially disadvantaged, HU, tribal, and/or non-traditional customers.
  • Improve areawide planning frameworks and measure efficiency and return on investment of conservation efforts.
  • Follow science-based data that balances economic return with environmental benefits.

Funding Information

The estimated funding floor for this opportunity is $100,000, and the estimated funding ceiling is $2,500,000.

Period of Performance

Projects may be between 1 and 3 years in duration. Applicants should plan their projects based on an estimated project start date of September 30, 2022.

  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (other than institutions of higher education)
