The Illinois Traffic Records Program is designed to improve statewide traffic data systems. The traffic records data system are comprised of six (6) core data systems: crash; driver; vehicle; roadway; citation or adjudication; and EMS or injury surveillance.

Details:

This program is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The Traffic Records Coordinator will act in the capacity of the grant administrator. Additionally, grant recipients will be required to serve on the Illinois Traffic Records Coordinating Committee (TRCC) and provide regular updates at the meetings that occur for the duration of the grant. The Traffic Records Program offers grant funding provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These grants are commonly referred to as 405(c) grants.

Program Goal

Improve the Illinois core data systems: crash; driver; vehicle; roadway; citation or adjudication; and EMS or injury surveillance.

Applicants under this program can address a wide variety of highway safety objectives including the following areas:

  • Develop and implement effective programs to improve the timeliness, accuracy, completeness, uniformity, integration, and accessibility of Illinois data systems.
  • Maintain a traffic records system that supports the data-driven, science-based decision-making necessary to identify problems, develop, deploy, and evaluate countermeasures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of efforts to integrate Illinois data systems. The integrated databases will identify risk factors, protective factors, and outcomes of motor vehicle crashes and improve knowledge of how motor vehicle crashes affect types of injuries and injury severity.
  • Expand purchasing and integration of software to help track and maintain traffic records.

  • Government Organizations, Education Organizations, Others, Small Businesses, Public and State controlled institutions of higher education, Private institutions of higher education, Nonprofits without 501(c)(3) status (excludes institutions of higher education), Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status (excludes institutions of higher education), Nonprofit Organizations, Native American tribal organizations (not Federally recognized), Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized), For profit organizations (excludes small businesses), For-Profit Organizations, Individuals, Independent School Districts, City or township governments, County Governments, Special District Governments.
  • Local law enforcement agencies, local civic organizations, public and private schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, public health departments, local governmental agencies, nonprofit groups, and under limited circumstances private individuals and businesses.
