The Foundation aims to fund established organizations who are exploring systems-level change, assessing the effectiveness of existing interventions, and answering questions about how to best serve older adults with low income.
AARP Foundation has specific objectives that focus on achieving outcomes for older adults with low income by increasing income and decreasing expenditures, primarily through gainful employment; accessing benefits; and securing refunds and credits. Their work prioritizes equitable strategies and services that address systemic barriers, racial and ethnic disparities, and other biases that perpetuate economic instability.

In addition, they are seeking projects aimed at accomplishing one or more of the following:
- Advance the work of organizations serving older adults with low income
- Answer questions to develop a deeper understanding of how to serve older adults with low income
- Initiate systems-level change to benefit older adults with low income.
Funding Information
AARP Foundation’s estimated total program funding for this opportunity is up to $1 million. They request that proposed budgets realistically and appropriately align with the program design. Historically, opportunities have ranged between $50,000 and $150,000 per year for up to two years.
Eligibility Criteria
- AARP Foundation will prioritize applications that serve populations disproportionately affected by systemic barriers, racial and ethnic disparities, and other biases in programs and policies. Additionally, they will give priority to applications that serve older adults in 22 U.S. states and territories: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico.
- The following are not eligible for funding:
- Grants for individuals
- Debt retirement or operating deficits
- Endowments or reserve funds
- Political organizations or campaigns
- Lobbying of legislators or influencing of elections
- Sponsorship of fundraising events
- Marketing endeavors and personal research
- Organizations located outside the United States or its territories
- Indirect expenses unrelated to the project being funded.
