2023 Jerome Foundation Grants for Arts Organizations in Minnesota and New York

Dated: April 4, 2023

2-year flexible grants to Minnesota and New York City-based arts organizations that offer ongoing programs, services and/or opportunities for multiple early career generative artists.

Donor Name: Jerome Foundation

State: Minnesota and New York

City: New York City

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 05/18/2023

Size of the Grant: $100,000

Details:

Jerome-eligible artists are in the early stages of their generative career, expansively defined by the Foundation as having at least 2 and no more than 10 years of experience generating their own original creative work outside of a degree – granting program.

The Foundation offers flexible grants to organizations with a demonstrated history of ongoing programs, services and/or opportunities supporting the creation and production of new work, artistic development and/or artistic professional development, and/or technical assistance for early career generative artists. Programs and opportunities that exclusively support mid-career or established artists are not eligible for consideration unless they also deliberately and significantly support early career generative artists.

Supported programs, services and/or opportunities for early career artists may include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and presentation of new work (i.e., exhibitions, installations, performances, publications, screenings of new works);
  • Artist development programs for expanding artistic skills and practices beyond developing new work;
  • Commissioning, fellowship, residency and/or mentorship programs that compensate artists for their participation;
  • Professional development and technical assistance programs.

Jerome Foundation prioritizes organizations whose programming, services and opportunities for early career generative artists:

  • Compensate staff and artists above and beyond any reimbursement costs for participation and at a reasonable wage
  • Are publicly transparent about their process for selecting participants, and either run an open application process for participation in programs or engage curators, nominators or staff with ongoing and broad experience with Jerome-eligible artists.

Funding Information

  • Given the Foundation’s limited resources and a goal of supporting additional organizations not currently funded, increases in grant amounts for current grantees are unlikely. As a result:
    • Organizations who currently receive more than $100,000 per year, may not request an increase.
    • Organizations who receive less than $100,000 per year, may request a maximum increase of 10%, but not to exceed $100K maximum.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicant organizations must:

  • Be 501(c)3 organizations or apply through a fiscal sponsor with a 501(c)3;
  • Be located in the state of Minnesota or one of the five boroughs of New York City;
  • Offer ongoing programs or opportunities serving multiple generative (as opposed to avocational, academic, amateur, hobbyist or educational) early-career artists or collectives per year;
  • Have been offering programs or opportunities for early career generative artists for at least 3 years. The Foundation does not support start-up organizations;
  • Demonstrate alignment and achievement with all Jerome Foundation values equity, diversity, risk/innovation and humility.
