2023 Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health Innovation Awards

Dated: May 11, 2023

The Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health is now accepting applications for its third round of Innovation Awards, an initiative which aims to identify and fund mental healthcare solutions for children and young adults across the United States.

Donor Name: Morgan Stanley

State: All States

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Award

Deadline: 07/14/2023

Size of the Grant: $100,000

Details:

Morgan Stanley is looking for new or piloted projects from direct-service organizations that will help address the far-reaching challenges of stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health issues in children and young adults on a national or local level in the U.S. Projects must tackle specific issues and address unmet needs, with a goal of reducing stigma, increasing access to care, improving equity in mental health, enabling early identification/prevention or enhancing intervention, especially among disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. Organizations that are shortlisted for selection must agree to applicable terms and conditions in order to be eligible for final selection and awarding of any grants.

The Innovation Awards program aims to help fill the funding gap in the under-resourced children’s mental health sector and provide runway for game-changing ideas. Its goal is to bring nonprofits and funders together, in order to match much-needed capital with innovative projects in the field of mental healthcare for children and young adults.

The third year of the program will provide $100,000 each to five U.S.-based 501(c)3 public charities advancing children’s mental health and addressing challenges of stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues. In response to the high volume of applications in previous years, the Alliance will expand the Innovation Awards program with a capacity building platform, where select applicants will be invited to join expert-led and peer learning sessions, as well as networking opportunities, aimed to benefit small- to mid-sized organizations.

Benefits

Five selected winners have opportunities to:

  • Be awarded with a grant of $100,000.
  • Raise their profile and showcase their program.
  • Receive consultation and training from industry professionals.
  • Learn from peers and build powerful connections.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health (the “”Alliance””) invites U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charities to submit innovative ideas for advancing children’s mental health.
  • While all registered 501(c)(3) public charities based in the U.S. are eligible to apply to the program, it is focused primarily on those with an annual total revenue under $10 million. Applicants with an annual total revenue over $10 million must demonstrate why existing funds cannot be used to support the proposed initiative.

Through a capacity building platform, select applicants will be invited to join expert-led and peer learning sessions, as well as networking opportunities, aimed to benefit small to mid-sized organizations.

Winner Selection Criteria

Applications are reviewed by an expert panel of judges and are evaluated based on the equally-weighted criteria below:

  • Innovation: Applications must present an innovative solution for addressing unmet needs in children’s mental healthcare, especially among disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.
  • Expertise: Applications should outline executable services informed and/or delivered by mental health professionals, highlighting any related mental health expertise and evidence-based models that they employ.
  • Impact: Applications should offer measurable deliverables aimed at improving the state of mental wellbeing in children or young adults.
  • Potential: Applications will also be judged on the feasibility of replicating or scaling the proposed service to benefit children and young adults in broader communities.
