The City of Cambridge has launched a new fund that enables Cambridge nonprofits to apply to receive assistance for losses incurred and increased operating costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Details:

As part of its allocation of funds through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the City of Cambridge established the Cambridge Nonprofit Recovery Fund to help address the financial hardship that the nonprofit sector faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cambridge Non-profit Recovery Fund (the “Program”) is a special grant program providing relief to local eligible non-profit organizations that have experienced negative economic impacts due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding Information

Eligible non-profits can receive up to $150,000 for their organization.

Eligibility Requirements 

To be considered for this funding, applicants must meet each of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Is a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) nonprofit organization or, if not a 501(c)(3), has a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) nonprofit organization.
  • Has a location within the Cambridge city limits, with a verifiable Cambridge zip code that serves Cambridge residents. Please note, you MUST have a physical location within Cambridge to qualify, serving Cambridge residents from a location outside of Cambridge, will NOT qualify.
  • Can expend the funds by the deadline of December 31, 2026, upon entering a grant agreement with the City of Cambridge for costs incurred March 3, 2021 through December 31, 2024.
  • Experienced or is projected to experience a negative economic impact or increase in operating costs that the organization was unable to cover in that year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrated by revenue loss or expense increase that can be verified by financial documentation.

Ineligible Entities

  • Hospitals, K-12 private schools, credit unions and higher education institutions.
  • Public institutions
  • For-profit entities and individuals are not eligible.

Ineligible Uses of Funds

  • Financial loss or expense that bears no relation to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
  • Contributions to rainy day funds, financial reserves, or similar funds.
  • Payment of interest or principal on outstanding debt instruments.
  • Lobbying, support of candidates for public office, or other political activities.
  • Individuals or for-profit organizations or businesses.
  • Activities that improperly discriminate as to race, gender, marital status, sexual preference, age, disability, creed or ethnicity.
  • Inherently religious activities, such as worship, religious instruction, or proselytization and/or those that promote or inhibit religious interest.
  • Economic hardship incurred outside of the allowable time period.
  • Identical expenses funded through any other contract or agreement with the City, including but not limited to Community Service Grant, Community Development Block Grant, and Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES”) grants and ARPA grants.
