The goals and objectives of this program are:
- Use climate-smart management and sound science to enhance the health and productivity of agricultural lands.
- Protect agricultural health by minimizing major diseases, pests, and wildlife conflicts.
- Foster agricultural innovation.
- Increase food security through assistance and access to nutritious and affordable food.
- Increase capacity, sustainability, and economic vitality in rural and tribal communities.
- Promote environmental justice by maximizing sustainable and green economic development in urban, rural, and tribal communities.
Emphasis will be placed on projects that:
- Implement innovative, new ways to address small scale and non-traditional garden, farming, and forestry spaces.
- Utilize climate smart practices, particularly conservation cover, to protect soil health.
- Develop agricultural production spaces that utilize green technologies that combat some of the impacts of climate change.
- Develop demonstration sites/farms that promote climate smart practices, particularly those promoted in South Carolina under the Inflation Reduction Act, that show producers how effective conservation impacts multiple resource concerns.
