$1 million is available for community-based, not for profit organizations to fully or partially fund projects that improve competencies and skills that can make environmental justice focused community-based organizations more effective and sustainable in monitoring air quality and public health in their communities as well as educating and engaging their communities. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to improve competencies and skills that can make environmental justice focused community-based organizations more effective and sustainable in monitoring air quality and public health in their communities as well as educating and engaging their communities. Community Air Monitoring Capacity Building Grants will provide community-based, not for profit organizations in disadvantaged communities with funding to engage their communities and secure technical assistance to stay informed on the statewide effort or support community driven efforts to improve local air quality that are in line with the goals of the Climate Act.
Organizations can receive up to $100,000 in funding for, but not limited to, the development or strengthening for existing programs focused on reducing exposure and improving public health in communities most impacted by air pollution or supporting community engagement in the state’s air monitoring program.
Funding Information
- Minimum grant amount is $50,000; Maximum grant amount is $100,000.
- All projects must have defined objectives, tasks, and deliverables accounted for in performance measures that can be completed and invoiced within a 36- month contract period/term and will have a contract term of January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
An eligible applicant must be a not-for-profit corporation (NFP) community-based organization, or a NFP community-based organization may partner with a NFP that will serve as their fiscal sponsor. For this grant opportunity, a NFP is subject to New York State’s Not-For-Profit Corporation Law, is qualified for tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code, has an IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter to be incorporated in New York State and is current in their charities reporting requirements with the Office of the Attorney General.
