The Community Foundation of Broward is inviting applicants for its Youth Work Grant Program to support must create or increase work-based opportunities that use digital skills training for students enrolled in grades 8-12.

Details: 

The Community Foundation wants to put more young people to work to learn how to problem solve, use critical thinking, demonstrate dependability, establish a work ethic, and display competent digital skills to successfully complete a task.

These opportunities can be traditional jobs, paid or unpaid internships, job shadowing or apprenticeships. They must last a minimum of four weeks.

Priority will be given to applications that use the job coach model, which demonstrates the strongest potential to open doors for youth to the workforce and help them reach the first rung on their career ladder.

Successful projects will include a Job Coach position that includes but is not limited to:

  • Meeting with employers to discuss their goals, concerns and target wages
  • Assisting youth in onboarding as they learn to excel in their job functions
  • Helping youth learn to navigate the social aspects of the workplace

Successful projects will demonstrate measurable outcomes as follows:

  • Young people engaged in appropriate work-based opportunities, (i.e. traditional jobs, paid or unpaid internships, volunteering, job shadowing, and/or apprenticeships) for a minimum of 4 weeks.
  • Young people demonstrate proficiency in life and soft skills as well as digital skills after completing a work experience.

Funding Information

Grant Range Up to $100,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to provide services to Broward County
  • City or county agencies with projects that demonstrate charitable intent in Broward
  • Individuals are not eligible to apply
  • Previous or current grantee organizations must be in good standing with the Foundation and have submitted all required reports and documentation for all prior grants per the grant agreement.

Examples of what the Foundation will NOT consider:

  • Mentoring or training only projects without a built in job component
  • Projects with job opportunities that last less than 4 weeks.
  • Projects requesting to pay for stipends for youth. Employers are expected to pay wages, which should be established by the Job
  • Coach or person handling employer recruitment.
