Donor Name: National Institutes of Health (NIH)
State: All States
County: All Counties
Type of Grant: Grant
Deadline: 11/11/2023
Size of the Grant: Up to $750,000
Project Period: 5 years
Details:
This initiative will support multilevel and multidisciplinary intervention research to improve quality of life and promote successful aging among people with HIV with HIV associated non-AIDS comorbidities across the life course from racial and ethnic and lower socioeconomic status groups.
The objective of this initiative is to support multilevel and multidisciplinary interventions to improve QoL and promote successful aging among PWH who are from racial and ethnic minority populations and from lower SES who are at high risk or currently experiencing comorbidities despite adequate control of HIV infection.
- Projects must include a focus on populations experiencing health disparities as defined above. Much of this population identify as SGM persons. NIMHD encourages proposals with an intersectional perspective on SGM persons or underserved rural populations with race and ethnicity and/or low SES who are living with HIV. Projects focusing on groups with multiple marginalized identities are encouraged (e.g., racial and ethnic minority groups living in rural areas, SGM persons from racial and ethnic minority groups).
- Studies must have a focus on addressing multiple comorbidities and promoting successful aging and QoL among older PWH or PWH as they age. Comprehensive studies that take a life course and whole person approach (e.g., biopsychosocial approaches) while considering clinical factors are encouraged. Studies utilizing comprehensive interventions to promote successful aging by providing services and management for multiple comorbidities, multiple health issues, physical functioning, dental, hearing, and vision, as well as social and community building, providing supportive care, psychosocial, and information needs of PWH are encouraged. Systems level and structural interventions (e.g., policies, access to resources) to improve and integrate care and promote access to care at the clinical and community levels are encouraged. Studies are strongly encouraged to engage community members or patients throughout the research process. Multidisciplinary projects addressing factors at multiple levels (i.e., individual, interpersonal, community, societal) and across multiple domains (i.e., behavioral, physical/built environment, health care system) are strongly encouraged. Multidisciplinary teams with expertise that includes but is not limited to HIV interventions and familiarity with the needs of the priority population(s) are required. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate and partner with key community stakeholders and leverage community resources.
