The Williamsburg Area Arts Commission welcomes all 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organizations to apply for supplementary funding for a project or performance which meets WAAC grant requirements.

Details:

The purpose of the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (WAAC) will be to assist Williamsburg City Council and James City County Board of Supervisors and other appropriate bodies and organizations in supporting and stimulating excellence in the arts and in creating an atmosphere that encourages the growth, development, and accessibility of cultural amenities for the benefit of citizens and visitors.

Funding Information

Total funding for the fiscal year 2022 arts grant program is $159,000. This comprises gifts of $75,000 made by The City of Williamsburg and $75,000 made by James City County plus a $9,000 state challenge grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a non-profit, tax-exempt organization qualifying for federal tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and to which donations are allowable as charitable contributions under section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • All funding requests must be made electronically through the official WAAC grant application online, found on the WAAC website.
  • Projects, performances and/or services must include service to the Historic Triangle (City of Williamsburg, James City County, and Upper York County).
  • Special consideration will be given to projects, performances, and/or services that nurture the Historic Triangle’s diverse communities and underserved populations, which include minorities, children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and the financially challenged.
  • Sound management and adequate fiscal responsibility are major factors in evaluating funding requests.
  • Applicants may request funds for general operating support and/or support for specific programs or projects. The costs for each request must be clearly specified in the proposed budget.
  • Projects, performances, and/or services already completed are not eligible for funding.
  • Organizations will be notified of their funding status at the conclusion of the budget cycles of James City County and the City of Williamsburg governing bodies.
