Areas of Interests

  • Alkermes is interested in funding programs that are designed to address challenges for people living with alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, melanoma or ovarian cancer and which promote health equity for diverse communities.
  • Applicants are encouraged to be creative and innovative in proposing new programs that will make a difference for patient communities. The committee will also consider significant expansions and improvements to existing programs.
  • The following examples describe some, but not all, areas of interest:
    • New and innovative programs to address the needs of people affected by alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, melanoma or ovarian cancer
    • Substantially reworking, improving or enhancing support or resources (e.g., helplines, mobile outreach)
    • Addressing the unique needs of caregivers in one or more of the disease areas listed above
    • Innovative efforts to meet educational needs of patients, their families and caregivers in historically under-resourced or underrepresented communities to help advance health equity
    • Education and/or support to help people living with addiction and/or serious mental illness return to work and/or transition out of criminal justice settings.

Funding Information

This competitive grants program will provide up to a total of $500,000 in grants to assist nonprofit organizations in their work to address the needs of people living with addiction, serious mental illness or cancer.

Eligibility Criteria

Only 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the U.S. that are not engaged in the practice of healthcare (which includes counseling services) may apply for funding through the Alkermes Inspiration Grants program.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Any program that includes the treatment of a medical condition will not be considered. Programs that reference Alkermes products or product candidates, or seek to measure the impacts of Alkermes products, are not eligible for funding through this program. In addition, the following organizations are not eligible to receive funding through this program:
    • Healthcare organizations, treatment facilities and individual healthcare professionals/ private practices
    • Foundations or charities controlled by healthcare providers or their private practices
    • Individuals/patients/caregivers
    • Labor unions/trade associations
    • Political/lobbying groups
    • Religious organizations
    • Fraternal or service organizations.

Grant Evaluation and Decision Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Focus on people living with alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, melanoma or ovarian cancer and/or caregivers for people living with these diseases
  • Clearly defined needs, objectives, activity format, mode of delivery and intended audience
  • Proposals with relevance to historically under-resourced or underrepresented communities will be prioritized for funding
  • The organization’s ability to execute the proposed program
  • Uniqueness and creativity of the proposed program/solution
  • Preference will be given to programs with broad reach within the U.S.; focus on geographic areas with historically under-resourced or underrepresented communities will be prioritized for funding
  • Application is complete and was submitted within the specified time frame.
