Grants to improve the Health and Wellness of Michigan’s Older

Dated: May 24, 2023

The Michigan Health Endowment Fund is accepting concept papers for its Healthy Aging Initiative to improve the health and wellness of Michigan’s older adults and their caregivers, while reducing the cost of care.

Donor Name: Michigan Health Endowment Fund

State: Minnesota

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 06/22/2023

Size of the Grant: $50,000 to $500,000

Grant Duration: 2 years

Details:

To achieve this aim, the initiative seeks to support projects that will collectively make meaningful progress toward improving the quality of care for older adults in the health care system, coordinating care in the community that will improve health outcomes and lower overall costs, and providing more support at home for formal and informal (family) caregivers.

Priority Areas

The Healthy Aging Initiative has identified priority areas for this year to complement the Health Fund’s Strategic Plan. These are presented for your consideration as you develop your proposal, but your proposal is not required to address a specific priority area.

  • Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias
    • Projects that improve the quality of life for those living with dementia and those who care for them.
  • Direct Care Workforce
    • Develop innovative methods, new financing models or policies to increase wages or benefits for direct care workers, or support programs that improve the quality of care, increase job satisfaction, or reduce turnover rates.
  • Elder Justice
    • Develop collaborative approaches to identifying, supporting, and improving the health and quality of life for older adults who are victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or discrimination.
  • Respite
    • Projects that aim to develop innovative respite programs or increase the availability of current respite opportunities for caregivers, through providers or informally in the community.
  • Rural Health
    • Projects that improve the health and quality of life for older adults and caregivers living in rural areas across Michigan.
  • Social Determinants of Health
    • Projects that establish replicable models, policies or services that improve older adult’s physical and social environments, providing more opportunities to live safely, achieve good health and stay active and involved in the community

Addressing Disparities and Promoting Health Equity

Across all priority areas, the Health Fund seeks proposals that address disparities and promote health equity. What does that look like? Equitable programs:

  • Benefit or increase access for populations most affected by a health issue;
  • Remove barriers to health;
  • Empower communities; and
  • Engage community leaders and members in decision-making

Funding Information

The Health Fund anticipates awarding grants between $50,000 to $500,000. Applicants may apply for a one or two-year grant, but the total request is limited to $500,000.

    • Be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit organization;
