Types of Grants
The Howard Gilman Foundation primarily provides general operating and project support grants. Please note that:
- Awards generally range from $10,000 to $250,000 with a median grant of $60,000.
- Multi-year general operating support is only provided to current grantees. Both New Applicants and Current Grantees interested in general operating support should apply for support for a period of one fiscal year. Multi-year grants will be made at staff’s discretion.
- Project grants are for the duration of the proposed project, which may span more than one fiscal year. They do not fund projects retroactively.
They also provide additional support for cash reserves, building reserves, artistic reserves, capital needs, debt relief, and other special opportunities. These grants are provided on a case-by-case basis and are typically determined over the course of the application review process. Interested organizations should discuss this with their Program Officer.
