NIH: Integrative Research in Gynecologic Health

Dated: February 1, 2022

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking proposals for Integrative Research in Gynecologic Health to encourage integrated and synergistic research in the study of uterine fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, gynecologic pain syndromes, and/or pelvic floor disorders.

Donor Name: National Institutes of Health (NIH)

State: All States

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 04/18/2022

Grant Size: 50,000

Grant Duration: 5 years

Details:

The ultimate goal of the FOA is to improve human gynecologic health by fostering partnerships between experts in diverse fields of research and enabling enhanced knowledge and resource sharing across these lines of inquiry. The projects developed will allow a cost-effective and collaborative route to accelerated transfer of scientific knowledge from bench to bedside and back again. These projects will also encourage partnerships with investigators who have not yet applied their expertise to gynecologic research, thereby expanding the potential scientific insight and investigational toolkit available to these projects.

The Gynecologic Health and Disease Branch (GHDB) was formed to develop and support basic, translational, and clinical research related to gynecologic health in women and adolescent girls, with emphasis on the study of uterine fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic floor disorders, and the mechanisms underlying gynecologic pain syndromes. While these conditions are seen as “gynecologic disorders,” they represent the intersection of gynecologic and reproductive health science with myriad fields, including neurobiology, muscle biology, vascular biology, immune biology, and relevant aspects of cell biology such as studies of extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions. Studying these conditions in their inherent complexity requires diversity of perspective, expertise, and approach. Since its creation in late 2012, the GHDB has been in the continuous process of developing, refining, and redirecting branch goals and priorities to fit the needs of the gynecologic biomedical research communities and the populations they serve.
