Details:

Through this multi-year funding opportunity, CareFirst seeks to invest in initiatives that target at-risk youth (e.g., rural youth, low-income youth, LGBTQ youth and youth of color) up to age 24 by focusing on the following priority areas:

  • Address behavioral health disparities for at-risk youth (e.g., rural youth, low-income youth, youth of color and LGBTQ youth) through innovative and evidence-based and promising programs that:
    • Address root causes leading to higher prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders among at-risk youth
    • Address root causes leading to higher prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders among at-risk youth
  • Workforce development to increase availability of behavioral health providers; including, but not limited to physicians, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), therapists, peer support specialists, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC), psychologists, psychiatrists, care coordinators, educators, and other support staff.

Special considerations will be given to organizations serving Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), disconnected youth, persons experiencing homelessness, populations with limited English proficiency (LEP), structurally disinvested communities, justice-involved individuals, LGBTQ populations, low-income communities, rural communities, and other marginalized communities.

Funding Information

Eligible applicants may submit a proposal with a duration of one to three years with a maximum budget between $100,000 and $200,000 per year.

Eligibility Criteria

CareFirst funding will support 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 non-profit organizations in Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia (located north and east of route 123, including portions of Fairfax, Alexandria, and Arlington Counties), and Charleston, West Virginia. CareFirst supports partnerships including, but not limited to, nonprofits, public (governmental) health entities, and/or other community-based organizations.
