The City of Phoenix is seeking applications for its Resilient & Sustainable Agriculture Grants to help local growers navigate, build, and succeed in Phoenix’s everchanging environment and ensure a resilient local food system.

Details:

The funding is meant to help private and non-profit farms that are interested in transitioning toward a more sustainable, resilient, equitable, and thriving food system.

The grant is one of ten programs under the initiative, which is designed to:

  • Continue and expand the programs that have innovatively provided food for COVID-19 impacted individuals and families, while creating jobs, economic opportunities, and strengthening the local food network.
  • Achieve the goals established in the 2025 Phoenix Food Action Plan and the Local Food System goals within the City of Phoenix 2021 Climate Action Plan.
  • Create a resilient food system.

Supporting Phoenix-based farms in enhancing resiliency and/or adopting and implementing sustainable food production practices into their operations will help the City achieve several goals outlined in the 2025 Phoenix Food Action Plan, which is led by the OEP and includes:

  • Healthy Food for All
  • Strengthen the Local Economy
  • Celebrate Local and Diverse Agriculture
  • Maintain a Sustainable Environment
  • A Resilient Food System

Funding Information

  • Total available grant funding for 2022 is $245,000
  • Grant awards can range in total from $1,000 to $75,000.
  • Funds will be paid in installments to support the project for one year.
  • All funds awarded through this grant opportunity must be spent by June 30, 2023.

Examples of Projects

Examples of resilient projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Food waste mitigation
  • Agrivoltaics
  • Soil health improvement
  • Water efficiency measures
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Shade structures/cloth
  • Vertical farming

Eligibility Criteria

  • Farms that are producing food for human consumption.
  • Farms must be located within the City of Phoenix municipal boundaries.
  • Farms located outside Phoenix boundaries are not eligible.
  • Farms must be in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations (check language on host farm application)
