The Orange County United Way is accepting applications for its Underserved & Underrepresented Population Grants Program to provide COVID-19 related services including but not limited to, mitigation and recovery supports to underserved and underrepresented communities which will strengthen their internal capacity to improve the health equity of their respective communities in Orange County.

OPHE has committed $1.08 million ($180,000 per year x 3 organizations x 2 years) to fund organizations representing each of the three (3) targeted underserved and underrepresented communities in Orange County. These grantees will address the needs of one of these three (3) communities:
- Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community
- American Indian and Alaskan Native community
- Transgender and Gender Nonconforming community
The overarching goals of this fund are to:
- Address health inequities and improve social determinants of health
- Overcome inequitable access to opportunities, resources, and support services for targeted and prioritized populations in Orange County
- Provide venues for community voice in identifying and determining solutions and priorities in addressing health inequities

- $180,000 per year to three (3) organizations
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding, an organization must meet all of the following criteria:
- Based in Orange County and provide programs or services to Orange County residents.
- Have 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status or be a fiscally sponsored organization. (Public agencies and health systems are not eligible.
- Primarily focused on serving one of the three underserved and underrepresented communities for which they are applying. In particular, a minimum of 50% of each organization’s clients must be from that identified population (Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander; American Indian and Alaskan Native; or Transgender and Gender Nonconforming)
- Substantial leadership from the target population; at least 50% of staff and/or 50% of board members must be from the target community.
- Must not discriminate based upon age, gender, gender identity, race, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or an individual’s ability to pay.
