Core Giving Areas
- Land conservation, especially projects that include recreational access to backcountry lands, and integrative land use planning.
- Healthy food and farming, with special focus on regenerative organic agriculture and local access to healthy food.
- Water quality, with a special focus on advocacy and university-level scientific research.
- Energy, with special focus on renewable energy policies.
Within the Core Giving Areas, they consider requests for:
- Organizations serving the state of Vermont.
- Project support, general operating expenses.
- Grants between $5,000 and $30,000.
- One-year funding.
The Legacy Giving is focused into two fields:
- Women’s Reproductive Health
- Midwifery and lactation support
- Supporting women’s mental and emotional health, before and after childbirth
- Media and civic engagement
- Current events
- Reflection and analysis of ongoing problems
- Education about the public policy process
- Legacy Giving grantees are selected by trustees.
Grant Requirements
All grant awards are subject to the following conditions:
- Grantees may only use the grant funds in support of the project described in the grant obligation, and may not use the funds for any other purposes.
- Each calendar year, a written report must be submitted, describing how the funds were actually deployed in connection with the project. Once all the grant funds are expended, a final report must be submitted describing how the funds were used.
- They trust that grant awards are handled appropriately. However, if they determine that grant funds were spent for purposes unrelated to the project described in the grant, they have the right to ask for the return of any funds that were inappropriately spent.
